The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD), to attract active retirees to the state, developed the Retire Tennessee program. In order to spread the word, TNECD partnered with Designsensory to produce a visually appealing, responsive desktop and mobile website.
The redesigned site is easy to navigate, with shareable content written for SEO optimization and visibility. The Good Life section illuminates the state’s cultural opportunities, outdoor activities and its rich heritage for music, sports and history buffs.
The urban and rural communities represented each meet the state’s criteria for amenities and resources required of a viable retirement destination. The “best places to retire in Tennessee” showcase active, livable cities as well as leisurely mountain and lake towns, temperate climate and stunning scenery.
The map of communities—from the Appalachians to the Mississippi—and individual community pages showcase what makes each area uniquely Tennessee. A matchmaking tool pairs locations with retirees’ specific interests. The site features events, testimonials, sustainability initiatives, retiree-specific educational opportunities and organizations, and other measures of Tennessee’s livability. The cost-of-living calculator illustrates both the state’s high quality and low cost of living.
