STEM Scouts
Success relies on student and volunteer participation.
The BSA partnered with Designsensory on their latest innovation, STEM Scouts, a pilot here in East Tennessee. This co-ed learning program by the Boy Scouts of America is a new way for students to discover the wonders of science, technology, engineering and math.

A Flexible Brand Identity System
Designing for Delight
Branding, advertising, public relations and digital efforts started with research, planning and strategy before delivering a forward-thinking, integrated campaign for the STEM Scout program launch. At the core of the STEM Scout flexible identity system is a logo designed with intrigue, education and delight in mind. The four aspects of STEM, science, technology, engineering and math, can live separately or combined with a consistent style guide. The logo can be seen as an animated element in videos, on posters, postcards, flyers, apparel, banners and print ads, etc.

STEM Website & User Portal
Streamlining Registration and Communication
The unique website and user portal is a dynamic one-stop shop that allows students, instructors and Scout leaders to access everything they need, from initial registration to group communication to completion of badges.
The Scout Portal
Educators and group leaders can manage rosters, events, payments and messages, submit lab ideas, review student work and post pending and completed badges.
Interested students and parents can use the site to find STEM Scout groups and events, sorted by location and grade level, register and access educational resources. Students can use the portal to find and participate in labs and classes, download educational modules, post in online journals and submit work for review.

Make the Future Campaign
Helping STEM Scouts Achieve Liftoff
The success of the STEM Scouts program relies on student and adult volunteer participation. Therefore, the PR campaign for the program started with identifying the numerous target audiences – elementary, middle and high school students, parents, teachers, principals, STEM professionals, and volunteers – and creating avenues for reaching those audiences with messages that would resonate and encourage the desirable action. Community outreach efforts included a speaking tour of professional organizations to recruit volunteers, setting up the mobile lab “The Vortex” at community events, and building relationships with the local educator and STEM communities

Futureproof Original Series
Telling the STEM Stories Driving Tomorrow
In partnership with STEM Scouts, Designsensory created FutureProof, a pilot series featuring the game-changing young innovator, Gitanjali Rao. This wasn’t just about finding a host; it was about teaming up with someone truly visionary. Gitanjali, recognized by TIME as a Top Young Innovator, is the brilliant mind behind solutions like a lead detection device – a direct response to the Flint water crisis – and an AI that helps combat cyberbullying. We knew her sharp curiosity and drive to solve real-world problems made her the perfect voice to spark a genuine passion for STEM in young minds. Now at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), she’s still pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, showcasing the incredible impact of STEM.
