“Most ideas are a bit scary. If it isn’t scary, it’s not really an idea at all.” — Lee Clow
Joseph oversees teams that solve complex challenges with thoughtful business strategy, design, narrative and technology. He holds over two decades of experience, working with local to global organizations like the state of Tennessee, Scripps Networks, Boy Scouts of America, Centers for Disease Control, Petsafe, Augusta Tourism, The Congressional Medal of Honor and Lamar Advertising.
Joseph’s approach is holistic and design-centric. His work has earned local, national and international recognition from the AIGA, the American Advertising Federation and the American Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences, Communication Arts, Telly, Emmy® and several design compendiums.
In 2014, Joseph partnered to launch PopFizz, an independent film, video and motion production firm. PopFizz works closely with Designsensory and other agencies and companies to create high-caliber branded content. One of the first projects involving PopFizz is the Emmy®-winning television show for the state of Tennessee called Tennessee Valley Uncharted. Joseph serves as co-creator and executive producer for the outdoor travelogue series.
Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, Joseph started his first business when he was 15 years old, and Designsensory when he was 20. He holds a B.A. in psychology from the University of Tennessee and was self-taught and mentored as a designer and writer. He has dabbled in sociology, rhetoric, philosophy and film—interests that continue to infuse his work.
Joseph is proudly entrepreneurial and involved in several “hobbies,” including real estate, software and art. He also has an unhealthy passion for cars, whiteboards and LEGO bricks.
He is past president of AIGA Knoxville, the professional association of design, and serves as a local and regional judge for the American Advertising Federation. Joseph was inducted into the Advertising Federation Hall of Fame in 2017 and named in Greater Knoxville Business Journal’s 40 under 40 list in 2015.
